Teaching Philosophy
Music serves as a gateway to forging deeper connections—with others and within ourselves.
My teaching approach is tailored to each student's unique needs and goals. As an educator, I am committed to nurturing every student's love for music, confidence, and performance skills. More than just developing technical skills, I hope to help students explore and discover more about themselves and the world -through music!
Lesson Rates & Scheduling
30 min trial lesson: free
30 mins: $40.00
45 mins: $50.00
60 mins: $60.00
Quarterly package (16 lessons): $900.00
Location: Morningstar Strings Studio in Lowertown Ottawa OR at student’s residence (+$15 commute fee per lesson)
Payment: E-transfer, due at start of each term; receipts provided
Discounts & Referrals
- Pay quarterly = 1 free lesson
- Refer a friend who books a lesson = $20 off next invoice
Cancellation & Rescheduling
- Notify me before the next invoice for planned vacations or conflicts.
- Emergency cancellations (illness, etc.) can be rescheduled within the same week/month.
- Cancellations within 2 hours of lesson start time are forfeited.
- Late arrivals (>20 mins without communication) result in a forfeited lesson.
- Missed lessons must be rescheduled within the same quarter.
- One-month notice required for withdrawal or extended break.
What I Offer
I am a professional cellist and composer who received postsecondary training in classical and Canadian contemporary music. My focus areas include:
- Reading music with confidence and fluency
- Developing healthy and efficient practice habits
- Cultivating musicality and emotional expression
- Enhancing listening skills and musical awareness
- Fostering creativity and personal interpretation
- Building confidence at every stage of learning
- Establishing an effective and personalized practice routine
Student Responsibilities
- Daily practice (minimum 10-15 mins for beginners).
- Practice consistency over quantity.
- Prepare assigned material for lessons.
- Keep nails trimmed for better ergonomics.
- Listen to music regularly to develop musicality.
- Students should bring their cello, theory books, notebook, and a pencil to every lesson.
- Parents are welcome to observe or assist, especially for younger students.
Required Materials
- Cello and theory books (Suzuki and RCM methods).
- Additional materials or pieces as suggested.
- Extra pieces students are interested in learning are encouraged!
